The town of Zestoa was founded in the last years of the 14th-century under the Izarraitz massif, just a few kilometres from Azpeitia and Zumaia. It is a village with a long spring water tradition from the time its famous spa was founded in 1804. The Zestoa Wellness Resort and Spa is a pioneer of spa tourism in Gipuzkoa and currently it is the only one in use in the Basque Autonomous Community.
The most important highlight in the historic and artistic heritage of Zestoa is the well-known site of Lili, from the 16th-century. Many of its elements have survived till date: the Palace, the old plot know as Lilibea, attached to the palace and the remains of its erstwhile mills (Errotatxo) and ironworks. There are two enclaves of great archaeological value near the site: Idiakaitz (Irikaitz) and the Ekain rock painting cave , the replica of which you can see at the Ekainberri museum. In the historical centre of the town the buildings of Portalekoa, Lizenziadokua and Arretxe are worth a visit.
As far as festivals are concerned, the festivities of Santa Cruz are celebrated at the beginning of May. During early September the Main Festivities or Amabirjinak are celebrated. In addition, the San Esteban market better known as Soro Peria is held on 26 December.
